Both my wife and I learned with deep regret of the passing of Academician Ye. Please extend our best wishes and best regards to his family. Personally, we have both benefitted so much from his directorship shortly after we entered IAP as young but "cheap educated" university students in late 1970's. He played an important role in steering IAP into a more academically "open" research institution during that era. We have met him a few times after leaving IAP, and still recall many of his kindnesses during our meetings.
Academician Ye was no doubt a giant atmospheric scientist, who has made many important contributions to advancements in our earth science. In addition, he was a great mentor to not only many of his students but also those of us who has worked at IAP under his directorship. He will be remembered for his leadership, kindness and innovation. His passing is indeed a great loss to our science community. He will be dearly missed by many of us.
