报告摘要:Beijing's innocent-looking sawtooths actually have a legacy that is much broader and deeper than one might suspect. The long line of weekly sawtooths during six months of every year is unique in the world, and results from a special set of conditions that involves not just emissions in the North China Plain, but hemispheric meteorology, geography, oceans, and demography. Its location is the result of 600 million years of natural evolution, with a century of human activities superimposed. This talk will illustrate these ideas, and will stress the interconnectedness of the sawtooths and the North China Plain.
