  Abstract

It is important to understand the atmospheric aerosols compositions and size distributions since they greatly affect the environment and human health. Particles in the convection layer have been a great concern in global climate changes. To understand these characteristics satellite, aircraft, LIDAR, and radio sonde measurement methods have usually been used. An aircraft aerosol sampling using a filter and/or impactor was the method commonly used. However, the flight speed particle sampling had some technical limitations. Moreover, the flight legal limit, altitude, prohibited airspace, flight time, and cost were another demerit. To overcome some of these restrictions, Tethered Balloon PM-Package System (T.B.P.S.) and Recoverable PM-Sonde System(R.P.S.) were developed with a very light optical particle counter (OPC), impactor (for particle component analysis), and condensation particle counter (CPC). Not only does it collect and measure atmospheric aerosols depending on altitudes, but it also monitors the atmospheric conditions, temperature, humidity, wind velocity, pressure, GPS data, during the measurement. In this research, atmospheric aerosol measurement using T.B.P.S. in Korea and Spain is performed and the measurement results will be presented. The system can also be mounted to an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV, Drone) and create a 3D-aerial particle concentration map in real-time. Finally, I will present measurement data using Tethered Balloon PM-Package System (T.B.P.S.), Recoverable PM-Sonde System (R.P.S), and Drone at the seminar.
