摘要
Precipitation extremes have widespread negative impacts on societies and ecosystems; it is therefore important to understand present and future patterns of extreme precipitation.
I will present three studies related to extreme precipitation, all based on a family of newly-developed GFDL coupled climate models. First, I present a systematic investigation of the quality of modeled extreme precipitation and its response to increased atmospheric CO2 concentrations. Then, I will use the models for a climate attribution study of the August 2016 Louisiana extreme precipitation event that led to devastating flooding. Finally, I present ongoing work on Mississippi river flooding.
