报告摘要:
The Accelerated Climate Modeling for Energy (ACME) Project is a new and ongoing DOE climate modeling effort to develop a high-resolution (0.250/L72 atmosphere, 0.10 ocean) earth system model targeted specifically at next-generation DOE supercomputers to meet the science needs of the nation and the mission needs of DOE. ACME is built on the Community Earth System Model (CESM), but with three entirely new ESM components: MPAS-Ocean, MPAS-SeaIce, and MPAS-LandIce. Its atmospheric model is developed from the Community Atmospheric Model (CAM5.3) with notable changes to its physical parameterizations and model resolution.
This presentation will provide an update on the ACME model development. The mean features of climate simulated by ACME fully coupled and uncoupled experiments will be presented with the focus on its capability in simulating clouds, radiation, and precipitation. Model sensitivity to both horizontal and vertical resolutions and challenges and strategies in tuning high-resolution model at current computational resources will be discussed.
