  Abstract

Land use changes have been occurred in many areas in the world during the past several centuries through natural or anthropogenic change from one ecosystem to another. According to IPCC WGI AR5 (2013), from 1750 to 2011, CO2 emissions from fossil fuel combustion and cement production have released 365 GtC to the atmosphere, while deforestation and other land use changes are estimated to have released 180 GtC. It means the land use changes had a profound impact on global warming. There are many kinds of land use changes happened in Shonai region, Yamagata prefecture, Japan during last several decades or centuries, such as changing rice paddies to upland and natural wetland, sand dune to pine forest. Within this seminar, presenter will introduce the newest results about soil carbon and nitrogen dynamics affected by land use changes with greenhouse gases fluxes in both wetland and pine forest from abandoned rice paddy and sand dune, respectively.
